Laura is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate with an undergraduate degree in psychology from Baylor University and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University. Using her training in developmentally appropriate interventions (such as play therapy and activity therapy), she finds great joy in helping children and teens achieve emotional health through improving relationships with themselves and others. She believes parents are an integral piece of this process and provides psychoeducation and coaching on a variety of parenting topics in order to maximize the benefits of therapy.
Laura has experience working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, grief, self-esteem issues, trouble with emotional regulation, and problems adjusting to life changes. She incorporates mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions into her work in order to help clients gain insight into areas in which they feel stuck or discouraged. Through this process, clients are better equipped to choose more satisfying patterns of thinking and behaving. It is her hope that clients feel valued, understood, accepted, and empowered through a warm therapeutic partnership.
As a wife and mother of four, Laura understands well the need for creativity, patience, humor, and self-compassion when striving to create a peaceful family environment. Outside of work, Laura enjoys cooking, reading, playing mahjong, crafting, and attending her kids’ extracurricular activities.
